Prof Dr Dirgharaj Ghimire has been unanimously elected the chairperson of the Sanatan Intellectual Council.
The Council that had started working as an informal forum in 2073 BS was officially registered in Kathmandu last year as a social and spiritual organisation. The organisation had organised its first general assembly on the ninth day (Nawaratri) of Dashain.
The AGM has unanimously elected Ghimire as its chair. Ghimire had long been serving the Nepal Sanskrit University.
Among others elected unopposed are Prof Dr Bhawani Prasad Khatiwada, Prof Dr Devmani Bhattarai, and Associate Professor Madhav Prasad Pandey (Vice-chairpersons), Dr Rudrananda Brahmachari (secretary), Associate Professor Sudarshan Nepal (joint secretary), Prof Dr Ananda Prasad Ghimire (treasurer).
The members unanimously elected are Dr Govinda Sharan Upadhyay, Dr Kanta Bhattarai, university teacher Baikuntha Ghimire, university teacher Upendra Dahal, Bishnu Prasad Pokharel, and Ramkrishna Upadhya.
The Council has been working to preserve and promote Hindu religious values and beliefs. It has also been co-working with the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti.
