At least 16 persons have lost their lives in floods, landslides and inundation that occurred following torrential rain in the past five days.
Likewise, 16 persons have sustained injuries in the disaster while 22 others have gone missing.
Of those natural disaster victims, three were killed in Sindhupalchowk district, three others in Doti and one each in Saptari, Kavrepalanchok, Gorkha, Jumla, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Kaski, Kalikot, Pyuthan and Bajura, according to Nepal Police Headquarters in Naxal, Kathmandu. Ten of the victims were males and four others were females while two of them were children, police informed.
Likewise, 20 of those missing in the flood were from Sindhupalchowk district and one each from Bajura and Rupandehi districts.
It has been reported that the search for those missing is ongoing.
A total of 102 persons have been rescued from the floods and landslides, the police headquarters said. Ninety-four persons were rescued from Sindhupalchowk district while eight others from Salyan. Likewise, 70 persons collecting yarsagumba in the hilly Manang district were also rescued on Friday, said Central Police Spokesperson and Information Officer, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar.
The highways and roads obstructed by the landslide debris following torrential rain have also been cleared with the help of security personnel.
Meanwhile, the security personnel have been putting effort to clear landslide debris from the road in various districts including Darchula, Humla, Surkhet, Kalikot, Salyan, Dailekh.
1,760 people displaced due to floods and landslides
At least 199 houses have been damaged by the floods and landslides triggered by incessant rain in a week.
Likewise, 12 motorable bridge, a school building and seven government offices have also been damaged by the disaster.
As per the latest information, at least 1,760 people from 528 households have been displaced while 516 domestic animals have died in the catastrophe, according to SSP Kunwar.
According to the police headquarters, the Area Police Office (APO) based in Helambu and police post in Talamarang, both in Sindhupalchowk have been shifted to safe locations. Meanwhile, police personnel dispatched to the areas hit by the disaster have been carrying out rescue operation.
The security agencies — Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepali Army — in coordination and support from locals, local administration and local representatives have been carrying out airlifting of the flood and landslide survivors, recovering the properties buried in the landslide. Moreover, the relief items have also been distributed to the disaster survivors.
