CPN UML senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that he will not betray the opposition alliance. He asserted that he was offered the post of prime minister instead of Sher Bahadur Deuba, but he would not accept it.

In an interaction with journalists today, leaders of the CPN UML faction led by Prime KP Sharma Oli, who have been advocating for party unity, suggested that Nepal should be made the prime minister rather than Deuba.

However, leader Nepal said that he could not betray the alliance for the post. He said, "I am not a deceiver. I will not betray the alliance. I am not in favour of withdrawing the signature."

Stating that the five-party alliance has been formed to save nationality, constitution, federal democratic republic and inclusion, he said there was no possibility of cooperation with Oli.

Leader Nepal alleged that PM Oli, who is also the CPN UML chair and the then Nepal Communist Party (NCP) co-chair, had tried many tricks to bring a rift between him and Pushpa Kamal Dahal who was also co-chair of the party. During his address, former PM Nepal sharply criticised Oli. He said PM Oli was obsessed with power.

During his address at the interaction, Nepal cited Oli as saying that he would break the chair if he had to leave the post of PM. "Oli's mentality is the cause of the dissolution of the House of Representatives," the former PM said.

UML leader Nepal made it clear that their fight was not against Oli but against Oli's mentality.
