North Korea fired an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) and two short-range ones toward the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, the Yonhap news agency reported on Thursday.
South Korea said it made its first successful launch of a solid-fuel rocket Wednesday in what it called a major development toward acquiring a space surveillance capability amid rising animosities with rival North Korea.
The United States called Friday for tougher U.N. sanctions after North Korea said it test-fired its biggest intercontinental ballistic missile to date.
