At least 23 people were killed and dozens injured as tornado and strong thunderstorms swept across Mississippi, US, late Friday, leaving a trail of damage for over 100 miles, ABC News reported citing local and federal authorities said.

Nine people have now been reported killed in the tornado that hit Alabama state in the US on Thursday.

The tornado left more than 15,000 people without power.
