At least 4,500 personnel of Nepal Police will be mobilised to enforce the prohibitory order in Kathmandu district from Thursday.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday decided to extend the prohibitory order imposed in Kathmandu valley. Initially, the prohibitory order was only for a week starting from April 29 (Thursday) but the Cabinet decided to prolong it citing that one week was not sufficient to break the chain of transmission of COVID-19.

The security agencies in the country have prepared to enforce the prohibitory order.

Superintendent of Police (SP), Ramesh Basnet at Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, informed NepalNews that Police personnel will be working in three shifts and there will be 1,500 personnel in each shift. Likewise, Spokesperson for Bhaktapur District Police office, SP Deepak Raj Giri, said there will be 800 police personnel working in three shifts.

Lalitpur Police Administration Office informed that a meeting was underway to discuss plans on mobilising police personnel to enforce the prohibitory order.

Meanwhile, Central Police Spokesperson and Information Officer for Nepal Police, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, said," Nepal Police has enough manpower and if the number of security personnel falls short we can deploy personnel from other districts to enforce the prohibitory order in the valley.

Likewise, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Armed Police Force, Raju Aryal, informed that a total of 3,000 personnel will be mobilised in the three districts — Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur — of the valley.
