Police arrested eight persons involved in betting offences on Euro and Copa America-2020 games from Kathmandu district today.
The arrested have been identified as Rajendra Shrestha Pradhan (57), a local resident of Sukedhara in Kathmandu; Jiban Lama (47), a resident in Dhoka Tole in Kathmandu; Suraj Tiwodewal (46), a local resident of Parsa district; Indian national Ashok Kumar Gupta (46), a local resident of Raxaul; Govinda Prasad Acharya (45), resident of Chitwan district; Indian national Rajesh Kumar Agarwal (49), a resident of Haryana; Indian national Suchit Dalmiya Agarwal (33), a resident of Rajasthan; and Amarnath Gupta (46), a resident of Morang district.
They were allegedly involved in betting offences involving huge amounts of money from different locations in Kathmandu. Acting on a tip-off, Minbhawan-based Metropolitan Crime Division (MCD) nabbed them while deals were being done in Indra Chowk, Maru Tole, Chhetrapati, New Road, and Gaurighat areas.
The deals were being done through IME Pay App, said the police. The police also seized the mobile phones used in the betting and also recovered undisclosed cash from their possession.
All the accused will be handed over to Metropolitan Police Sector for necessary action, informed MCD, Minbhawan.
