Fire in Shivapuri park under control

Security personnel have successfully brought under control the forest fires that spread in the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park on Sunday.

The Nepali Army shared on Twitter that the wildfire that took place in the forest of Sundarijal area in Gokarneshwor Municipality-1 of Kathmandu district has now come under control.

A joint team of the Nepali Army's Mahindradal Battalion, No. 1 Disaster Management Battalion of Armed Police Force of Nepal, Shivpuri Nagarjun National Park administration with the help of locals doused the fire.

Likewise, a joint team of the personnel deployed from the security base Pachmane of Shumsher Dal Battalion, Game scout team and the Nepal Police with the help of locals doused the forest fire that spread in Jitpurphedi area of Tarakeshwar Municipality-3 in Kathmandu district.

For the past week, the forest fires reported in various parts of the country including Nawalpur, Bhojpur have caused smog in the atmosphere raising the air pollution level in the country.

According to meteorologists, the monsoon system could develop with either the occurrence of heavy rainfall or gusty wind for the haze to clear out. Meanwhile, there is no possibility of such a system developing in the coming two or three days, according to meteorologist Samir Shrestha.

The forest fires taking place in most of the districts for long without winds have led to the accumulation of smog and haze in the atmosphere, Shrestha said.

Meanwhile, all the educational institutions have been closed until Friday in view of the adverse impact of unusual condition seen in the atmosphere.

Likewise, the Ministry of Health and Population has also urged citizens to not expose themselves to the polluted air caused by the accumulation of smogs in the atmosphere.

Likewise, the flight operation has also been affected due to low visibility caused by the adverse weather.
