Four arrested with 52 stolen mobile phone sets in Kathmandu

Police have recently arrested four persons in connection to the theft of 52 sets of mobile phones that took place in Kathmandu about three weeks ago.

The arrested have been identified as Jahir Ansari (32) of Bihar, India, currently residing in Lalitpur, Prayagpokhari; Dipesh Shrestha (27) of Bouddha in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6, currently residing in Kapan; Amit Rana Magar (29) of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-11 in Chitwan district, who had also been residing in Kapan, and Bikram Shahi (33) of Ason in KMC-30.

According to police, Trackon Couriers and Cargo based in Kupondol had taken charge of delivering a consignment of Redmi Note 9 mobile sets to Ugratara Marketing in Dadeldhura after making an agreement with Sanepa-based MI Mobile Phone showroom. A vehicle laden with the mobile sets packed in a carton box headed for Paropakar Sansthan from Dallu via Kalimati, police informed and added that a group of unidentified persons stole the phone sets from the moving vehicle on February 14.

Acting on the tip-off that the mobile phones were sold to Ansari, owner of a mobile phone shop in Prayagpokhari, through Rana Magar Police at RS 550,000, a joint team of security personnel deployed from Metropolitan Crime Division and Metropolitan Polie Circle, Janasewa based in New Road arrested all four of them with 52 stolen mobile phone sets.

Meanwhile, the arrestees have been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Janasewa for further investigation into the case, MCD informed.
