Garbage being dumped in Bancharedanda landfill site

For the first time, garbage has been dumped at the Bancharedanda landfill site in Kathmandu Valley. As soon as the construction of cell van of Bancharedanda landfill site was completed, dumping of garbage in the valley started from today.

 After the Sisdol landfill site in Nuwakot was filled, the government started construction work on the Bancharedanda landfill site on the border of Dhading and Nuwakot. Garbage piled up in Kathmandu and Lalitpur for a long time has been moved to the landfill as of Monday.

Under the direction of Urban Development Minister Ram Kumari Jhankri, the Kathmandu Metropolitan Corporation had sent a team from Kathmandu to the Bancharedanda landfill site for disposal on Monday night. Minister Jhankri himself had monitored the collection of garbage in Balaju, Ratopul and other areas.

 At present, 100 trucks of garbage from Kathmandu and Lalitpur have reached the dumping site in Bancharedanda, said Rabindra Bohara, project chief of Bancharedanda landfill site. Stating that the situation was normal despite the general protests of the locals, he said that garbage would be continuously be dumped at the Bancharedanda landfill site.

 Minister Jhankri on Monday convened a meeting with Kathmandu Chief District Officer Govinda Rijal, Lalitpur Chief District Officer Ghanshyam Upadhyay, Kathmandu Metropolitan Chief Administrative Officer Loknath Poudel, Kathmandu and Lalitpur security chiefs and directed them to make arrangements for immediate disposal of garbage.

Chief Administrative Officer of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Loknath Poudel, informed that the metropolis is taking initiative to manage garbage before the arrival of the new mayor in Kathmandu. He said that he is ready for waste management in any situation.

 The corporation, which had been disposing garbage in Sisdol earlier, had problems in disposing garbage due to obstruction of locals. Stating that garbage has been piled up in the streets and alleys of Kathmandu and Lalitpur, Minister Jhankri has directed the concerned bodies to manage the garbage as soon as possible, according to his secretariat.
