Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Chiri Babu Maharjan has asked Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah to take the lead in the construction of metro rail in the valley.
Mayor Maharjan submitted a letter to Mayor Shah on Friday, requesting the Kathmandu Metropolis to take its lead as the metro is the only option in the valley's public transport.
Maharjan expressed his commitment to cooperate with the federal government and become a partner of Lalitpur metropolis under the leadership taken by Kathmandu metropolis for metro rail.
Presenting the letter, Maharjan said, 'If there is coordination and cooperation between the two cities, we can complete big plans.'
The mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, said that he also felt that metro rail is essential for the valley. He said that he will start discussions with other municipalities regarding metro rail in a planned manner.
Vadan Nyachhyon, a consultant engineer of Lalitpur Metropolis, said that if the traffic management in the valley is not done on time, the problem caused by traffic jams will be severe after the next five years.
