The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has sent a letter with instructions to bring the movie theaters operating in its area into the digital system within 30 days by including the entertainment fee.
If the taxpayers of the 17 movie theaters within the metropolis have collected the entrance fee through the digital system, they have been asked to give access to it within three days, and if they have not conducted the tax in the digital system, within 30 days from the date of receiving the letter, the revenue department has been asked to bring the entrance fee into the digital system and give access to the said system.
Deepak Adhikari, Assistant Spokesperson of the Metropolis, informed that the user ID and password of the tickets to be sold through the digital system have been requested. He said, "The metropolis has advanced the process for transparency of how much tax has been raised. We have asked the halls that have not gone to the digital system to go within a month and provide access to the system." A 5% entertainment tax is levied on tickets sold as an entrance fee to cinema halls.
