Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda released the national report of the National Census 2078 in Kathmandu today.

It was completed last year as part of the twelfth series of the national census, which has been conducted every ten years.

Overall, the results show that the number of young people has gradually decreased and the number of older people has steadily increased. It is seen that the annual growth rate of the overall population is decreasing. Especially in the Himalayan and hilly and rural areas, the rate of population growth is seen to be decreasing rapidly. In contrast, it is seen that the rate is increasing in Terai and urban areas.

Similarly, compared to the previous census, it has been seen that the number of people who are absent from their families and living abroad has increased and the proportion of women has increased among them.

In summary, there has been an increase in the proportion of families with female heads of households and families with communication and other facilities, using clean drinking water, using electricity, using modern fuel for cooking, and toilet facilities.

It is seen that the literacy rate has increased from 66 percent to about 76 percent.

But most of the indicators show the disparity between rural and urban areas, which needs to be addressed to manage the existing imbalanced migration in Nepal.

The census halted due to the worsening of the Covid-19 epidemic, was completed five months later than the proposed time.
