The Department of Land Management and Archive in Kathmandu has issued a 21-day notice against 49 individuals involved in the Lalita Niwas land scandal. The notice has been issued against those individuals for their involvement in transferring the ownership of land in the Lalita Niwas area in Baluwatar, which is government property, to private individuals.
The department has published a notice today giving the 49 defendants a three-week period to visit its office with clarifications. The department has mentioned that if any individual against whom the notice has been issued does not furnish a clarification within the stipulated deadline then that individual’s land ownership will be transferred to the government.
The department has also stated that a notice was issued two months back seeking clarifications from the concerned individuals on why the land ownership should not be transferred back to the government, however the individuals did not visit the department with any clarification.
The notice adds that based on its decision made on April 2, the Department of Land Management and Archive had tried to deliver the notice seeking clarification from the 49 individuals but since their residences could not be located the respective notice has been published in a newspaper today.
