Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged literary writers to contribute to social upliftment.
The PM was addressing the literary figures on Friday at the PM’s official residence while conferring different prizes on them on behalf of the government.
PM Oli said that any genre of arts should reflect innovation on Nepalis’ unity and aspirations of peace. The PM was of the view that a renaissance on Nepali literature was needed.
“Last year, I had said from this place that Nepal is the birthplace of Ram. Sage Vishwamitra had travelled to the west from Koshi to educate Ram and Laxman. There are several other evidences,” PM Oli said.
Though the war of the Mahabharat took place in Kurukshetra, the Mahabharat was created in Nepal itself, PM Oli added.
PM Oli also took exception to the rising trend of belittling the history considering that that history is nothing to praise about.
He said that some ill-practices of the past, if any, should not be accepted as the totality of the past.
In his address, the PM directed the concerned bodies to advance processes for the distribution of prize to be established in the name of poet Siddhicharan Shrestha and Prime Minister Talent Prize.
