Since the number of people being infected has been rising on a daily basis the chief district officers of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur have decided to enforce the prohibitory order more strictly.

The administrations of the three districts have decided to further tighten the order with shops being allowed to open from 7 am to 9 am only. Earlier, such shops were allowed to stay open till 10 am. According to the new provision, shops selling essential food items will not be allowed to open in the evening. The earlier provision had allowed them to open from 5 pm till 7 pm.

Vehicle permits that have been issued till date will also be rescinded as such passes have been found to be grossly misused.

The District Administration Offices (DAOs) of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur had initially issued a week-long prohibitory order to be followed by everyone.

As per the order issued by CDOs of the valley, the prohibitory order would have come into effect from 6:00 am on April 29 and lasted till midnight on May 6. However, a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on April 26 decided to extend the prohibitory order for 15 days.

Banks and financial institutions will also not be allowed to open all their branches as per the new provision. Such institution will be allowed to open only 25 per cent of the respective branches.

The prohibitory order has been issued in the valley in view of surging cases of novel coronavirus including the new variants on the recommendation of the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre (DCCMC) to break the chain of the transmission of coronavirus and the order issued by the government to prevent and control the pandemic as per Section 2 of the Communicable Disease Act, 2020 and Sub-section 3 of Section 6 of Local Administration Act, 2028.
