Manish BK, who is originally from Dharan but living in New Buspark, Gongabu at the moment, is busy distributing food to the needy these days. As the general secretary of Jaya Mahakal Youth Club, which was established on August 5, 2020, BK says that he has taken it upon himself to make sure that the poor and vulnerable do not have to go hungry during the prohibitory order.

He relates that the club has been set up with the slogan ‘Bhoka lai bhojan ra pyaasi lai paani’ that translates to ‘Food for the hungry and water for the thirsty’. And the club has been trying its best to realise that mission.

Due to the prohibitory order practically all businesses have closed down and many who rely on daily wages do not have the money to afford a meal, says BK. “We are trying to feed as many people as we can so that no one has to sleep on an empty stomach,” he adds.

At present, the club is involved in distributing food in Balaju, New Buspark and Pashupati areas.

“Initially, it was difficult for us as we did not have a lot of funds and it was all through the contribution of our club members,” BK shares. “But now we have been receiving help from many quarters and our work has become a lot easier.”

The club started distributing free food to those in need from the previous lockdown and the campaign has been gaining strength, says BK. “I would like to request all the youths to join hands and try to overcome this crisis in any small way we can,” he states, adding, “We shouldn’t always wait for the government to do something for us.”
