The Baghbhairav temple is situated in the heart of Kirtipur. Baghbhairav is known as the town's guardian god and the temple is one of the oldest temples in the city. Both hindu and Buddhists worship the phrase baghbhairav. This temple is one of the few in Kathmandu Valley built on a rectangular foundation, as the majority of Bhimsen and Bhirava temples have rectangular bases.
Constructed in the 16th century, the temple is built on a single podia and is supported by sixteen large wooden pillars and a thick inner wall. Baghbhairav is said to be Lord Shiva incarnated as a tiger.
