Bangladesh records highest daily spike of 96 COVID-19 deaths

In a grim landmark, Bangladesh on Wednesday reported 96 more deaths from COVID-19, the highest daily spike, bringing the death toll to 9,987.

The country's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also reported 5,185 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, raising its total tally to 703,170.

The official data showed that 24,825 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

The total number of recovered patients rose to 591,299 including 5,333 new recoveries reported on Wednesday, said the DGHS.

According to the data, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is currently 1.42 per cent and the recovery rate is 84.09 per cent.

Bangladesh recorded the highest number of daily cases of 7,626 on April 7.
