A lion has apparently died in a zoo in Chennai in India due to the COVID-19. As per a report in the Times of India, a 12-year-old lion died of the coronavirus at Arignar Anna Zoological Park at Vandalur on Wednesday morning.

This is the second lion to have died due to the virus at the zoo. Earlier, a nine-year old lion had died due to COVID infection on June 3.

The newspaper reported that officials at the zoo had mentioned that the lion tested positive for COVID-19 as per the report of the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal. Samples were collected from the lion after five lions in the zoo showed symptoms such as coughing and loss of appetite. The animal, housed in the lion safari area, was under intensive treatment since then and died around 10.15am on Wednesday.
