The government has said that Pfizer's new vaccine (bivalent vaccine), for Omicron, will arrive in Nepal in the week following February 13.
Dr Surendra Chaurasiya, Ministry of Health and Population, informed that 1.5 million doses of Pfizer's new vaccine will be brought through COVAX.
According to him, there is a work schedule from February 13 to 16. “Now we have asked for 1.5 million. There is a plan to bring 1.5 million more as per the demands," said Chaurasia.
The Ministry of Health and Population has also decided to give the fourth dose to senior citizens, chronic patients and people at risk. On the recommendation of the National Vaccination Advisory Committee, the ministry had decided to give the second booster dose on November 13 already. Accordingly, the Family Welfare Division has issued a circular to the Provincial Health Directorate and Health Offices.
However, the government that has decided to use the second booster did not have enough vaccines. Public health experts say that citizens who have not received even one booster dose should be vaccinated immediately.
