27 succumb to dengue in Bagmati province

Bagmati Province recorded 42,459 dengue patients in the current fiscal year. Of them, 27 lost their lives.

The highest number of dengue patients were found in Kathmandu which was 14,500 while the least number of dengue patients in Rasuwa, according to Information Officer of Bagmati Province's Health Ministry, Dr Rabin Bhusal, in a programme organised to make public the conclusion of a dengue-related study carried out by the Health Ministry of Bagmati Province in five districts of the province on Wednesday.

On the occasion, Junior Entomologist of Vector Borne Disease Research and Training Centre, Hetauda, Deepak Kumar Shah said the study was carried out from March 24- May 1, 2023 and 1,623 pots filled with water of 547 households were checked. Of the 1,623 pots, the virus of mosquito spreading dengue disease was found on 170 pots of 133 households.

As per the study, the highest amount of dengue virus was found in thrown away tyres while second in drinking water tank. The dengue virus was also found in water jars, drums, water bottles and refrigerators. There is a situation to remain more alert as the dengue virus was also found even in the refrigerator.

Acting Secretary of the Ministry, Deepak Tiwari, Director of Health Directorate, Maheshwor Shrestha, Senior Public Health Administrative, Satish Bista, Dean of Madan Bhandari Academy of Health Sciences, Durga Khadka Mishra, among others shared that the study would create a basis to carry out activities in policy-level and implementation level in the areas of impact of dengue disease and steps to be carried out to control the disease.

Health workers working at different health units of Makawanpur and Chitwan districts were present on the occasion.
