The Pfizer vaccination campaign targeting children in eight districts, including the Kathmandu Valley, has become uncertain.

The Ministry of Health and Population had issued a notice to launch a Pfizer vaccination campaign targeting 12-17-year-old children in eight districts from December 28.

Officials at the Ministry of Health say that the vaccination campaign has become uncertain due to the delay in the arrival of syringes and fluids.

According to Badebabu Thapa, pharmacy officer of the supply branch under the management division of the health service department, the Pfizer vaccine is coming on Friday and the solvent is scheduled to arrive on December 29. But the date of arrival of the syringe is uncertain.

According to Thapa, even though the vaccine arrives by air, other items including syringes reach Nepal by road.

Head of Family Welfare Division Dr. Viveklal Karna also admits that the date of arrival of the syringe has not been confirmed even though the vaccine had been confirmed.

The government had planned to vaccinate children after ensuring that 620,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines were received under the COVAX facility.

The Ministry of Health had made a schedule to conduct Pfizer vaccination in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kavre, Chitwan, Sindhuli, Dadeldhura, and Surkhet from December 28. The government had scheduled the first dose of Pfizer vaccine in those districts from December 28 to January 5 and the second dose from January 18 to 27.

The government plans to vaccinate children in their schools. Similarly, the government has started the process of purchasing additional 6 million doses of Pfizer vaccines for children.

The Ministry of Health has been conducting a Moderna vaccination campaign for children in 57 districts since December 18.
