The Department of Drug Administration (DDA) has urged the concerned sides only to sell and distribute pediatric drugs having no mix-up of Ethylene Glycol and Diethylene Glycol chemicals.

Issuing a press release, DDA's Senior Drug Manager Santosh KC cautioned the consumers towards possible mix-up of such spurious chemicals in some liquid medicines to be used for children.

According to the Department, the World Health Organization (WHO)'s report has also noted that application of medicines having Ethylene Glycol and Diethylene Glycol chemicals among children in different countries, including Zambia and Indonesia has seriously affected their kidneys and sometimes led to death.

In the statement, the Department has made it clear that the medicines containing elements such as Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, My Cough Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip and Cold Syrup are being produced by Miden Pharmaceuticals Limited Hariyana and the drugs manufactured have not been registered in Nepal.

The Department has also instructed the drug manufacturing companies to ensure that there was no mix-up of such chemical elements in the drugs being used in Nepal.
