The district hospital, East Nawalparasi lacks dengue test kits only to add to woes caused by the outbreak of dengue across the country. Scrub typhus test kits are also in short supply.
The dengue diagnostic kits are in short supply since 15 days. As a result, the hospital is forced to return incoming dengue patients, said the hospital information officer, Chhabi Lal Subedi.
Nine people admitted to the hospital in the past two months were confirmed with the infection, he said. The hospital's Out Patient Services have received 20 dengue patients on a daily basis, said the hospital officiating medical superintendent Dr Kamal Raj Neupane. "Many people with high fever have admitted to the hospital.
"We are attending to patients except those infected with dengue as it lacks dengue diagnostic kits," he said, adding that suspicious patients have been referred to other hospitals.
The government provides the kits for free of cost. Private hospitals charge high for dengue tests, thus providing extra financial burden for the patients.
The provincial government has been time and again asked to supply the kits. But, it said the supply could not be made stating that the province health logistic management division lacks the kits, said Subedi. "We have accepted dengue patients based on the reports confirming the patients done elsewhere," said Dr Neupane
