Japanese Ambassador Kikuta visited Matrisishu Miteri Hospital in Pokhara, Gandaki Province.

Matrisishu Miteri Hospital is now a provincial government hospital and was formerly Pokhara Municipal Hospital; part of the hospital building was constructed by the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) of the Government of Japan in 2011. The aim of the project was to create a safe and secure environment for childbirth and new-born children for the residents. Moreover, the movement was initiated by the people of Komagane City, Japan and Pokhara. Since then, the people-to-people activities have been continuing on the basis of the hospital.

On the occasion, Ambassador Kikuta expressed his pleasure to visit the hospital which is not only a core medical institute for maternal and newborn care in Gandaki Province but also a model of Japan-Nepal friendship. He also expressed his wish that the babies would become a driving force for the prosperity of their families and the country in the days to come.

This was Ambassador Kikuta's first official visit to Gandaki Province since his arrival in Nepal. In addition to the visit, he called on heads of the provincial government and Pokhara Metropolitan City and attended a project handover ceremony to Himalaya Eye Hospital.
