Large facial pores are one of the most common skin problems, and it causes skin texture to look rough. You can tweak your skincare routine and can achieve less noticeable skin pores. Studies show smooth skin texture enhances facial attractiveness and youthfulness.
When the pores are clogged with sebum, dirt, and grime, they expand and make pores more noticeable. It is important to cleanse your face twice a day to unclog pores and reduce oiliness. Choosing the right cleanser is important. Though the cleanser touches your face for less than 5 minutes, it can cause a huge difference.
Non-foaming cleansers are popular these days, however, I would not suggest them to anyone with large pores, pimple-prone skin, and oily face. Look for a foaming cleanser that can clean oiliness without drying afterward. Salicylic acid 2% or less face wash is gentle enough to use daily. However, if it started to cause dryness, then use non-drying face wash in the morning and limit salicylic acid-based face wash in the evening. Rinse your face with lukewarm or cold water accordingly to your preference.
Never use hot water as it can over-strip moisture and sebum causing skin irritation and dryness. Skin sensors sense skin drying and stimulate oil production, which can make pores look bigger. That's why moisturizers are important for both oily and acne-prone skin. Lotion-based, light, hydrating, hyaluronic acid-based moisturizers are great for such skin types.
Always look for "non-comedogenic" labelled skin care products and makeup, and what it means is such a product won’t block pores.
Our skin turnover becomes sluggish with age, and these built-up dead cells cause pores to clog along with sebum, dirt and makeup. Exfoliate your dead cells up and out with home use AHA-BHA products. You may visit a dermatologist for a professional chemical peel for better results.
The skin firming elements in our skin such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid breaks down due to free radicals oxidative stress caused by ultraviolet rays, stress, smoke, pollution and natural aging. Without the support of these firming elements, pores look noticeably larger.
Add antioxidant vitamin serum, broad-spectrum sunscreen, and retinol-based products in your skincare to keep your skin firmness maintained.
You may try clinic-based procedures to enhance the result of your home care. These procedures are designed to stimulate collagen which can reduce both the appearance of signs of skin aging such as wrinkles and sagging, as well as large pores.
