Today, the 14th International Spinal Injury Day was celebrated with various programs under the slogan 'Road for Wheelchairs, Our Right'.
The Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Center at Bhainsepati, Banepa Municipality-13 of Kavrepalanchok organized a wheelchair rally and cultural program here today.
On the occasion, Director of the Center Kanak Mani Dixit said that the program was organized to create awareness among all to make Nepal wheelchair friendly. Stating that a wheelchair ride is being constructed from the hospital premises of Bhainsepati to Vasuki Danda above to make it easier for the wheelchair users of the hospital to visit the surrounding settlements and places, he informed that Uddhav KC, Chief of the District Coordinating Committee is coordinating the work. "We are making it possible for others to visit the Vasuki Temple on a wheelchair and see the scenery around them," he said.
The hospital, which was established 20 years ago in Banepa Municipality-13 Bhainsepati of Kavrepalanchok, has received services from more than 3300 people with serious spinal cut injuries, according to the Center. At present, 65 people are being treated in the 51-bed hospital, said Dr. Raju Dhakal, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Specialist and Medical Director of the hospital. He said that the service will be operational after the completion of the work of strengthening the existing buildings as all the procedures have been taken forward to increase the capacity of the hospital to 100 beds.
The hospital has been providing treatment services to people with spinal cord injuries. Ram Bahadur Tamang, Arjun Dong and others with spinal injuries performed songs and dances in the program.
