KATHMANDU: Nepal Police with the assistance of Interpol has apprehended two individuals in Cambodia and brought them to Nepal on Friday. The suspects, Sujan Acharya and his girlfriend, Binu Shakya, were arrested after allegedly collecting 5 crore 2 lakh Nepali rupees from 40 individuals, promising to arrange foreign employment opportunities in Singapore.
Acharya and Shakya had been on the run and were issued a red notice issued by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) on February 2, 2024.
Acharya, a permanent resident of Triyuga Municipality-10 in Udayapur, claimed to own a company in Singapore and posted various photos and company registration in Singapore and lured young people by earnings monthly salary up to 3,000 to 4,800 Singapore dollars.
Acharya's girlfriend, Binu Shakya, a well-known belly dancer from Bhaktapur also involved in the fraudulent activities to collect the money.
Police officer said that Acharya and Shrestha face pending charges related to foreign employment fraud. Acharya has additional criminal cases under investigation by the District Police Range in Kathmandu for electronic transaction violations and another charges by the Maharajgunj Police Circle for criminal profiteering.
