In the current fiscal year 2023, 10 one-horned rhinoceros have died in Chitwan National Park.
Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, information officer of the park, informed that out of 10 rhinos that died in the first six months of the current year, seven died of natural causes, one due to electrocution and two due to smugglers.
On Friday, the number of dead rhinoceros reached 10, including two that were electrocuted by smugglers in East Nawalparasi. According to Information Officer Tiwari, both the rhinoceros found dead on the banks of the Narayani River at Madhyabindu-2 in East Nawalparasi on Friday were electrocuted by traffickers.
Out of the two found dead, an estimated 14-year-old female rhinoceros was found with its horn cut. Another four-year-old baby rhinoceros is safe, Tiwari informed.
Tiwari said that the preliminary investigation showed that the baby rhinoceros may also have died after being hit by the trafficker.
According to the park administration, the investigation has been carried forward after the dead rhinoceros was found with its horn cut.
