31 enforced disappeared during conflict come to family contacts across nation

As many as 31 persons who were enforced disappeared during the decade-long civil unrest in Nepal have come to their families’ contacts. In course of its meeting with the families of conflict survivors to probe their complaints, the Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons (CIEDP) has found that the disappeared persons have come to their families’ contacts.

“At least 31 persons have come into communications with their families. The disappeared were found to have assimilated in their families”, shared Commission’s Chairperson Yubaraj Subedi.

“The number is found to be increasing. The Commission is hopeful of identifying other more”, he added.

Among those found so far during the investigation of the complaints is of Lachhuman Prasad Bhatta of Bidur Municipality-12 (Nuwakot), Gopal Prasad Aryal of Waling Municipality-6 (Syangja), Hemraj Joshi of Ghodaghodi Municipality, Krishna Prasad Dulal of Punarbas Municipality-10 (Kanchanpur), and Chandra Bahadur Shah of Ilam Mai Municipality-7.

Others found are Bhishma Jung Rayamajhi of Kamal Rural Municipality (Jhapa), Gangadhar Timilsina of Bharatpur Sub-metropolis (Chitwan), Umesh BK of Sanibheri Rural Municipality (Rukum-West), Bikram Singh Thagunna of Naugadh Rural Municipality-5 (Darchula), Rohit Bhattarai of Siddicharan Municipality-2 (Okhaldhunga), Kalu Singh Thagunna of Parashuram Municipality-9 (Dadeldhura), Keshab Prasad Upadhyay Poudel of Ramgram Municipality (Nawalparasi-West) and Raju Bikram Shah of Nareswor-6 (Gorkha).

Likewise, others identified are Kumar Subedi of Miklajung Rural Municipality-3 (Morang), Raj Kumar Rana of Godavari Municipality-13 (Lalitpur), Dhan Bahadur Dahal of Bhimdutta Municipality-18 (Kanchanpur), Dabal Budha of Khaptad Chheddaha Rural Municipality-2 (Bajura), and Shiva Prasad Khanal of Myagde Rural Municipality-1 (Tanahun).

Similarly, Ram Kumar Rai of Bhojpur Municipality-3 (Bhojpur), Babin Rai of Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality-3 (Bhojpur), Jagannath Hedawa and Laxmi Bahadur Budha of Chainpur-11 (Sankhuwasabha), Janak Bhandari of Shikhar Municipality (Doti), Benimaya Adhikari of Ratnanagar Municipality (Chitwan) and Santosh Jaiswal of Gaur Municipality-1 (Rautahat) were found assimilated well in their families.

As informed, Jaya Prasad Jaishi of Narayan Municipality-6 (Dailekh), Tuk Bahadur Poudel of Putalibazaar Municipality-2 (Syangja), Pahalman Basnet of Kalimati Rural Municipality-1 (Salyan), Nil Bahadur Thapa of Mikkakhola Rural Municipality-1 (Taplejung), and Harimohan Chaudhary of Basbariya Rural Municipality-3 (Sarlahi) were also found with their family members.

The CIEDP had received complaints regarding the enforced disappearance of persons during the time of armed conflict spanning from 13 February 1996 to 21 November 2006. Among 3,223 complaints registered at CIEDP, 237 were referred to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). The CIEDP has expedited its investigations into 2,495 complaints related to enforced disappearances.
