Minister of Home Affairs Bishnu Prasad Poudel, who is also the Minister of Finance, has said that a total of 226 incidents of natural disasters have occurred due to the incessant rains since June 14 till date in Nepal. He mentioned this while presenting a report on the steps that the government had taken for relief and rescue measures at the National Assembly today.
Minister Poudel, in his report, stated that 39 people have lost their lives and 31 have gone missing in the floods and landslides that have occurred in 22 districts across the country including Sindhupalchowk, Bajura, Gorkha, Tanahun, Dhading, Chitwan and Doti till date. Meanwhile, 46 people have injured in these incidents.
He informed the National Assembly that necessary equipment and human resources from the Department of Roads had been deployed at places where highways and major roads had been obstructed due to floods and landslides. Poudel stated that the government had been involved in clearing roads that are blocked as soon as it received information regarding the incidents.
The home minister also mentioned that 43 drinking water facilities across the country had been damaged due to the natural; disasters and maintenance work on them had already been started. He also said that 25 hydropower projects including small and large ones had suffered damages during this monsoon.
Minister Poudel informed the assembly that 278 people had been rescued via helicopter by Nepal Army personnel from Sindhupalchowk, Manang, and Gorkha. He also mentioned the government had distributed 834 tents, 2,056 pieces of tarpaulin sheets, and 194 sleeping bags to people affected in eight districts.
