Police in Kailali district arrested a thief who had been absconding for 10 years from Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City-2 on Saturday.
The arrested has been identified as Govinda Raj Awasthi (50), a local resident of the same sub-metropolis in Kailali district.
According to police, Awasthi had been on the run since the Kailali District Court convicted him of theft and fined him Rs 45.40 lakh along with six-year imprisonment, on November 24, 2012. He had been convicted of stealing yarshagumba and other goods.
Dipayal Appellate Court on February 18, 2014, and the Supreme Court on August 12, 2019, had also upheld the verdict of the Kailali District Court.
Meanwhile, Awasthi has been sent to Kailai-based prison where he will serve his sentence, informed DPO, Kailai.
