The All Nepal Peasants Federation (Revolutionary Centre) has called upon the government to provide relief and compensation to the farmers at the earliest.

It has demanded that the data should be collected with the participation of the farmers affected by rain, flooding, landslide, and inundation, and distribution of compensation to them based on the proportion of damage they have suffered as a result of the natural disasters.

The government on Wednesday decided to provide relief to the flood and landslide-affected farmers. The Federation called for immediately implementing this decision in a way that the people can feel the declared relief package.

The Federation has also urged the government to guarantee that genuine farmers get the relief package. It has underscored the need for a plan with a long-term vision for resolving the various problems resulting from natural disasters and others affecting the agriculture sector.

Federation president Chitra Bahadur Shrestha said they have also urged the government to set up a Farmers Relief Fund (Agriculture Support Fund) by allocating at least a Rs 5 billion budget each year for providing immediate relief and compensation to the genuine farmer producers in a smooth and hassle-free way.

As he said, the government has also been urged to disseminate information on the weather forecasts and make them accessible to farmers and the general public through the local bodies.
