The proposed 'B&C medical college teaching hospital and research center' has demanded the government to grant the affiliation and also determine the number of seats for running MBBS degree classes soon.

The call to provide the affiliation and seats was made as per Clause 13 (6) of the Medical Education Act, 2075 BS by the college based in Birtamode of Jhapa to Kathmandu University and the Medical Education Commission respectively. The proposed college had already received a letter of intent prior to the Act came into being, and hence is eligible to get the affiliation, the proprietors have claimed.

"After receiving the letter of intent, we build all necessary infrastructure and have fulfilled the required standard, hence I request the high administrative and political leadership of the country to take note of it and grant us our due affiliation," said Executive Director of the College Durga Prasain. Talking to media persons on Friday, he said the college intends to end the situation of Nepali students having to go abroad from MBBS and MD/MS studies.

Likewise, Principal of the College Prof Dr. Umesh Sharma said that a 900-bed hospital including the Purbanchal Cancer Hospital and B&C hospital, more than 1,300 patients enjoying OPD and internal services with 30 to 40 surgeries in a day, among others are all the requirements that have already been met to be eligible to run MBBS classes. "We have the capacity to provide MBBS education to 300 students, and can also run MD/MS classes," he said.

Granting of affiliation to the college will provide jobs to 1,500 local residents while the government will collect revenue worth more than 5 million rupees annually, public relations officer of the College Pramish Giri said. The college will also realize the dream of the people in the region to see their children acquire an MBBS degree in their home town, while also enjoying quality health services nearby.
