The first provincial gathering of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Bagmati province concluded in Sauraha today, issuing an 11-point declaration.

The two-day gathering concluded, demanding the establishment of the Mass Communications Training Academy (MCTA) in Chitwan.

Reminding the government of the decision of the FNJ, Central Committee to establish the Academy, the gathering insisted on the execution of the decision.

Besides, the guarantee of freedom of the Press, working journalists’ rights, and capacity enhancement, and professional security of journalists are other issues raised by the gathering. It has drawn the serious attention of bodies concerned towards removal from jobs, pays cuts, and non-payment in media houses in the name of the COVID-19 pandemic. The session condemning such moves of media houses demanded the corrections of such actions and ensure due payment to journalists promptly.

Meanwhile, speaking at the concluding session of the gathering, Bagmati Province minister for internal affairs and law Krishna Prasad Khanal pledged to come up with programmes capable of addressing the issues of media houses and journalists facing consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As he said, the Province Government would soon sit with bodies concerned to discuss the matter and take efforts to address their concerns. The minister also said he would make efforts for the establishment of the Academy in Chitwan.
