The number of people who died in a road accident involving a passenger jeep in Tufan Danda of Mashta Rural Municipality-1, Bajhang today afternoon has reached seven. The accident occurred when the jeep (SuPra 01-001Cha 117) going to Khetkot in Mashta-2 from headquarters Chainpur met with an accident. The jeep fell 200 meters down the road and got stuck in a ditch, according to Information Officer of the District Police Office, Ramesh Dutt Awasthi.
Six people died on the spot while one succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Sixteen others are undergoing treatment at the district hospital and many are reported to be in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, the deceased have been identified as 13-year-old Mejkan Khadka of Mashta RM-2, 15-year-old Roshan Khadka, 28-year-old Basanthi Dhami, 13-year-old Prachanda Khadka, 38-year-old Birendra Adhikari, seven-month-old Dakshita Kathayat and 42-year-old Jharendra Bohra of Shuklaphanta Municipality, Kanchanpur.
Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and locals work together to rescue the injured and take them to the District Hospital Simkhet.
The passengers were returning after observing seeing the Sildevi fair at the headquarters, Chainpur when the accident took place, Ward President of Ward No. 1 of the Rural Municipality, Ramchandra Rokaya said.
