Bird flu, which was first seen in Rapti Municipality of East Chitwan on January 12, has now spread across the district.

Dr. Prabhash Neupane, information officer at the Veterinary Hospital and Veterinary Services Expert Center, said that 233,312 layers of chickens have been killed in farms where bird flu has been detected so far.

The eastern region has been hit the hardest by bird flu. Last time, 90,000 chickens were destroyed in Khanal Poultry after bird flu was detected. Khanal Poultry is the largest farm in the district where bird flu has been detected.

It is estimated that the disease spread rapidly when some farmers sold chickens in the market after the bird flu started killing them. It has been found that some farmers have sold their chickens as they could not wait for the relief provided by the government. The disease has spread due to lack of strict monitoring.

Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development of Bagmati Sharan Pandey said that the disease was spread when some farmers started selling chickens after they started seeing the infection. He said that farmers should pay attention to biological security. The disease is most prevalent in Chitwan and then in Kathmandu. According to Pandey, the ministry is conducting intensive tests through its subordinate offices and only after testing is allowed to be carried out and if the virus cannot be stopped, the disease will continue to spread.
