Candidates intensifying election campaign in Makawanpur

Altogether 26 candidates contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections from Makawanpur district are intensifying their election campaigns as the Election Day is round the corner.

The House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20 this year in a single phase.

Nepali Congress' deputy general-secretary Mahalaxmi Upadhyay 'Dina' is representing the ruling coalition (democratic-left alliance) and is contesting from constituency no 1 while Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal's Chairperson Kamal Thapa is contesting from the same constituency with the support of the CPN (UML). Thapa is fighting under the UML's symbol, 'Sun'.

 Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party's central member Deepak Bahadur Singh is running in the election from the same constituency.

Nepali Congress (BP) has fielded Surendra Bhattarai for the same constituency while Nepal Workers Peasants Party has given ticket to Shantalal Bhail.

Province Assembly members' candidates from constituency no 1 for Rastriya Prajatantra party is Sagar Thapa while Gunjan Bahadur Neupane is from constituency no 2.

Kamal Bista and Eklal Shrestha are vying for Province Assembly members representing CPN (UML) while Prem Bahadur Pulami (Chintu) and Aananda Ram Parajuli are ruling coalition's candidates for constituency no 1 (a) and constituency no 1 (b) respectively.

Makawanpur has altogether 300,758 voters registered with the Election Commission of Nepal. There are 364 polling centers in the district. Besides this, two temporary polling centres have been set up in the district to ensure participation of inmates and sexual minorities among others in the election, it was said.

Social activist Toyanath Adhikari of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-12 viewed that the voters should elect those candidates who could deliver on quality healthcare services, conservation and promotion of ancient and historical monuments in the district as well as those who prioritize welfare of the people.

Another social activist Om Bahadur Thapa of Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-4 opined that it's high time the voters elect the ones who would provide leadership in national politics and are responsible towards the public.

Nepal Police's team will set out for polling centers with election materials from November 14, informed Chief District Officer of Makawanpur, Rajendra Dev Pandey.
