Chemical fertilisers that were purchased from Bangladesh have arrived in Nepal. A total of 32,500 metric tonnes of fertilisers that were bought through government-to-government agreement have arrived at the provincial office of Agriculture Inputs Company Ltd (AICL) in Birgunj.
As per the government-to-government purchase agreement Bangladesh will provide Nepal with 50,000 metric tonnes of urea. The remaining 17,500 metric tonnes of the fertiliser is in the process of being imported. The remaining fertilisers will be delivered to the Dry Port in Sirsiya, Birgunj via the rail route after they are delivered at Kolkata Port.
According to the agreement, all the fertilisers should have already been delivered to Nepal but it has been delayed due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. As per AICL, efforts are being made by the government and the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka to bring the remaining quantity as soon as possible.
The government had decided to purchase fertilisers from Bangladesh so that the country does not face any shortage during the paddy plantation season.
