Coronavirus has spread in the prison in Biratnagar Metropolitan City-8 for the past few days.
The prison administration admitted 19 prisoners to Koshi Hospital on Thursday after they developed a high fever. One of the admitted people died on Thursday and the rest are undergoing treatment.
Out of those who were taken to the hospital, 16 people were found to be antigen positive. Although the reports of two people are negative, they have symptoms similar to Corona.
"Patients with a fever of more than 100 degrees have been admitted to the hospital, the number of patients inside is high," a prison source said.
Medical Superintendent of Koshi Hospital Dr Yagyaraj Kharel said. He said that preparations are being made to do PCR on everyone.
A 39-year-old prisoner, Neer Bahadur Nepal, of Sundarharaincha Municipality-4 died among those who were admitted to Koshi Hospital after developing a high fever on Thursday.
Although the symptoms were similar to COVID, the deceased was not tested for COVID. He was serving a prison sentence in the murder industry case and had a fever of 104 degrees. His body was found and taken away by his relatives.
There are currently 1,087 prisoners in the prison. The capacity of the prison is 300 men and women.
