Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the second wave of COVID-19 infections in the country is under control, but Nepal now needs vaccines.
In an interview with CNBC, an American business news TV channel, Prime Minister Oli today said, "The highly infectious and more lethal second wave of the pandemic had started hounding us since late March. The infection and death rates were also increasing. There was an acute shortage of infrastructure, hospital beds, facilities and equipment. It was like a very serious crisis when the second wave started but gradually we took very serious measures including restriction and social distancing to control the transmission of coronavirus pandemic." He added, " Now the situation is under control."
PM Oli said that the Government of Nepal has urged partners all over the world, including various organisations to support Nepal. He also expressed gratitude to those who have supported Nepal in the fight against the pandemic. We need vaccines now, the PM told CNBC.
