Defendant arrested after 28 years

District Police Office Ramechhap has arrested a fugitive defendant in a case of murder after 28 years. The arrested is Hom Bahadur Thapa Magar, 58, of Gauswara-7 currently living in Doramba Shailung Village Municipality-4, said Nawaraj Dhungana, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Ramechhap.

Gajure Magar, a neighbor, was stabbed to death by four persons on October 21, 1992, due to an old dispute. Apart from Hom Bahadur, Chandra Bahadur Magar and Ganga Bahadur Magar have already served their sentences while Tak Bahadur Magar has died.

According to Dhungana, Thapa Magar, who was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by the Ramechhap District Court on January 29, 1994, was still absconding. Police arrested Magar on the basis of special information while he was hiding in his house.

While his wife was trying to help him escape by telling lies about her husband Hom Bahadur who was at home, the police found him hiding inside the house on the upper floor of the house. Police have informed that the accused will be taken to the district court today.
