Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha returns home

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha said that during his visit to China, there were positive discussions on strengthening the relationship between Nepal and China and on trade, investment and economic development. After completing a five-day visit to China with a seven-member delegation, he returned home today and told the media while talking to the special room of the Tribhuvan International Airport.

During the visit, a bilateral meeting was held between Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha and Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Hai Li Fung. Similarly, a meeting was held with the Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party of Sichuan Province and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Sichuan Provincial People's Council, Wang Siuhui. During the talks, there was a positive discussion on issues such as trade, investment, tourism, and 'connectivity' between the two countries and the special request made by Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha to increase cooperation from China to Nepal.

"The Chinese Deputy Prime Minister and the Secretary of the Sichuan Party Committee have given us positive confidence about increasing economic partnership", Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said. There was also a positive discussion about opening more trade points and facilitating traffic on the Nepal-China border.

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project has been signed between China and Nepal and in response to Chinese inquiries about Nepal's preparations to benefit from it, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha said that the BRI implementation framework is being prepared and will be completed through bilateral discussions.

Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha addressed the 19th West China International Fair held in Chendu as the keynote speaker. During his address, he urged the Nepalese government to invest in Nepal as it has adopted a policy to encourage, promote and protect foreign investment by significantly improving the investment system.

Similarly, in the discussion with the officials of Sichuan Airlines, he requested to increase the daily air flights on the Chhendu-Kathmandu route and to start commercial flights from Chhendu to Pokhara and Bhairahawa Airports.
