Dr. Koirala inaugurates Geriatric Hospital

A 15-bed 'Shankar Adhikari Memorial Memorial Geriatric Hospital' is being constructed in Biratnagar-6 Rampur by the Biratnagar-8-based Birateshwar Old Age Home Service Committee. The hospital, which is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 250 million on one bigha of land, will provide all the health related treatment to the senior citizens in one place. The wife of a late officer, sons Saroj and Sanjiv and daughter-in-law Anjana had given their land for the construction of the hospital, for free.

Laying the foundation stone of the hospital today, Nepali Congress central member Dr Shekhar Koirala said that the newly elected people's representatives should win the trust of the people on the basis of work. Stressing on the need for good governance, transparency and accountability, corruption-free environment and accountability, he stressed on the need for the head and chairperson to monitor the development work at the local level and play the role of 'watch dog'.

 The newly elected chief of the Biratnagar Metropolitan City, Nagesh Koirala, expressed his commitment to move ahead by coordinating for the health care and other works required for the senior citizens.

 Ashram Chief Jagat Aryal, NC Metropolitan President Deepak Chapagain, NC State Treasurer Rajesh Gupta, Dr. Naran Koirala and Rukmini Koirala expressed confidence that the senior citizens of the state would get quality treatment facility from the establishment of the hospital. In addition, Aryal, the head of the ashram, has been collecting Rs. 5 daily from the public for the construction of the hospital, while the project will get further support from federal, state, local bodies and from home as well as abroad.
