Educationalists and stakeholders have suggested that the existing education system should be transformed to achieve expected results.

At a programme here Saturday, educationalist Dr Bidya Nath Koirala ruled out possibility of a full communitization and full privatization education system in the country. He rather suggested that optimum use of knowledge and resources from both the community and private sectors as per Nepali civilisation and culture.

He stressed the need for teachers to be responsible for transforming community schools and for implementing fundamental rights of people as guaranteed by the constitution while strengthening good governance.

Admitting to a lack of expected results despite a big size of budget in education every year, Dr Hari Lamsal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, assured that the government would make legal arrangements to implement a free education up to secondary level in community schools.

Presenting a working paper, educationalist Dr Gopilal Neupane pointed out the need for freeing education of the government's interference as he said the existing education system has been politicised, has suffered bureaucracy's interference and teachers are cadres of political parties.

Former President of the National Private & Boarding Schools' Association, Gita Rana viewed that privatisation along with regulation could take place in the area where the government could not get results while referring to the 'gradual transformation of education system' in the country.

Similarly, the Community School Management Committee Federation of Nepal Chair Krishna Thapa pointed out the need to make community schools free of the government's interference and the role of parents for reforms.

The interaction programme was organised here by the Education Journalists Forum.
