At least 21 people have died and 24 are missing due to rain-triggered disasters throughout the country in the past 24 hours. Hundreds of people have been displaced while millions of properties have been damaged.
Crops have also been destroyed in the Terai region.
Details of disasters caused by the heavy rainfall throughout the country until Tuesday:
• Province 1:
40 houses have been flooded in Jhapa. The Kankai River has flooded an entire community in the Gaurigunj rular municipality. According to the District police Office Jhapa, 40 houses have been flooded in Joda Hokalbadi, Gaurigunj-1. Police informed that the only boat used by the locals has also been swept away by the flood making the rescue difficult.
In Nageshwoe marg, Dharan sub-metropolitan city-13 of Sunsari district, 2 children of the same house have died due to landslide. The deceased have been identified as four-year-old Nihan Rai and 7-year-old Nishu Rai, children of Nisan Rai.
Flood has also obstructed the Koshi Highway in the Dharan-Dhankuta section, while flood has killed one person in Udaypur.
A landslide has also obstructed the Mid-hill highway in the Dukure, Pakhribas Municipality-5 of Dhankuta district. In Salleri, Dhankuta municipality-4, the road has been obstructed as a “Salla” tree fell and blocked the road. Crops have also been destroyed in Morang and other districts.
• Province 2:
Heavy rains in Janakpur have caused flooding in houses and shops, causing destruction worth millions. Crops have also been destroyed in the district.
Various shops and offices have been flooded in Janakpur, causing huge destructions.
• Bagmati Province:
In the Bagmati Province, destruction is less than compared to other provinces. One person has been swept away by a flood in Sindhuli. Landslides and Floods have affected Chitwan, Makwanpur, and other districts in the province.
• Karnali Province:
One dead and one injured in landslide in Kalikot. The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Smriti Adhikari of Ramni, Mahabai-7. 15-year-old Ishani Adhikari, Smriti’s sister who was sleeping beside her sustained injuries. Ishani is undergoing treatment in a local health office.
A landslide has also destroyed 5 houses in the village. 25 households have been taken to Local Ram Secondary school and health post as risk still prevails.
A landslide has put 13 houses at risk in Manma bazar. Roadways have also been obstructed in the village due to landslides.
Likewise, the flooded Karnali River has swept away a ferry in jite, which connected to the Karnali corridor.
Karnali highway of the Surkhet-Jumla section has also been obstructed in many places. The highway has been obstructed in Dailekh Paltada, Rakam, Ghattekhola, Dailekh, Gagan of Kalikot, Seri, Sunar Khola, Molfa, Pili Serawada, etc informed the police.
One person has died due to landslide in Dadeldhura. The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Bishnu Awasthi.
Likewise, roadways, electricity, and communication services are down in Accham.
Road obstruction in Gauritad, Kailash Khola, Janalikot, Marku, and Chaukhutte has left vehicles and passengers stranded. Using a dozer to clear the roads is also very risky, informed Accham police in charge, DSP Tulsiram Aryal.
Districts including Myagdi, Manang, and Mustang of Gandaki have been affected by landslides. Hundreds were stranded in the landslide-prone Rupsechahara, Kapre, and Bandarjungbhir areas of the Myagdi-Mustang border area of the Beni-Jomsom road on Tuesday.
More than 15 hours of tourists were stranded in the area. However, no human casualties have been reported in Gandaki districts.
• Lumbini Province:
Districts including Rupandehi, Banke, and Gulmi of Lumbini have been badly affected by the floods and landslides. The floods in the Rapti River have affected many places.
Four people trapped in the Rapti River were rescued on Tuesday morning.
However, according to Rupan Gyawali, the information management officer at the District Emergency Operations Center, Banke, and the water level in the River has been rising due to incessant rains. As per the reports, the measurements were taken at the flood measurement center at Kusum on Tuesday morning, the surface of the Rapti River has reached 3 meters 40 centimeters.
Floods and landslides have also affected the residents of Palpa. More than 200 domestic tourists who reached Ranimahal were stranded due to the landslide.
Large landslides have fallen in Hattidhunga, Gaighat, Baikunthabhir, and other places since Tuesday morning. Roads towards Ranimahal and Tansen have been blocked due to it.
• Far-West Province:
Bajhang is one of the most affected districts due to the continuous rain. Twenty-four people have gone missing in the landslide from Thalara village municipality-4 on Monday night.
According to the local police, seven houses were buried in the landslide at Dhogdina Danda, one kilometer above the village.
Eighteen members of the Gagane Sarki family and six members of Nare Parki's family are still missing. Only Kale Sarki, the eldest son of Gagane, is currently in touch.
Due to the landslide, locals of lower and upper Dikla are taking temporary shelter at Tribhuvan Secondary School, Mahendradhar.
Madan Bahadur Saud, a teacher at Shanti High School, Parakatne, said that more than 100 families have been displaced due to the risk. Drinking water and communication services in more than a dozen places including the district headquarters Chainpur have also been disrupted.
Three people have been killed in a landslide in the Baitadi district. As many as 60 people are waiting for rescue in Dhungad village of Sigas Municipality. They have been waiting for rescue since Monday night but could not be rescued even on Tuesday.
Even the Nepal Army helicopter that went for rescue has returned without landing. The river has cut the land of the village, locals have begged for rescue saying that they could be swept away by the floods at any time. But the rescue workers could not save them due to bad weather and communication service being disrupted.
Roads connecting most of the hilly districts, including the Jaya Prithvi Highway in the far west, are blocked. The flood in Dungri River near the district headquarters has also washed away the suspension bridge connecting Dungri Bazaar and Leki. Locals have been moved to safer places.
Kanchanpur has also been badly affected by the floods. Five people trapped in the Mahakali floods in Bhimdatta Municipality-9 Khalla Masetti since Monday night were rescued on Tuesday.
Similarly, nine people have died due to floods and landslides in different places of the Doti district. Most parts of Kailali have been affected, and the Dhangadhi market itself has been inundated.
The floods have eroded various parts of the Dhangadhi sub-metropolis. Hundreds of passengers have been stranded due to the landslide on Bhim Dutt Highway. The paddy crop prepared by the farmers has also been damaged.
Many houses in the City 4 Bus Park, Vishalnagar in ward No. 3, Milanchowk, and Santoshchowk in ward No. 1, Bazar Marg, Sivanagar, and Hasanpur area of ward No. 5 have been flooded. The road has been blocked due to landslides at various places along the Sahajpur-Bhasubhir road section of Kailali under Bhim Dutta Highway.
Similarly, three houses have been destroyed by a landslide in Salyan. Two houses were destroyed in Sharda municipality and one in Bangad Kupinde municipality. However, all the family members managed to escape to safety.
According to Gobind Thapa, Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Salyan, the Sallibazar-Chaurajahari road has been blocked. The landslide at Dharapani of Bangad Kupinde Municipality has blocked the road since 11 am on Tuesday.
