Electoral activity has started increasing in Kailali district for the local level election to be held on April 12. In preparation for the election, political parties are focusing on meetings, gatherings, training, discussions and interactions.
Leaders and cadres of the political parties have said that discussions are being held in the meetings, gatherings and training on how to make the candidate of the party victorious in the local level election. While the names of the candidates contesting from different parties at the municipal level are yet to be finalized, the meetings, trainings and meetings of the political parties seem to be focused on which person can win the election by giving tickets to which person.
According to Nrip Sunar, District Secretary of the Nepali Congress, the party is holding trainings, rallies and meetings with the slogan 'Let's go from house to house, let's win the Congress'. "The party's candidate at the local level can be decided within the first week of April," Sunar said.
CPN-UML has also intensified election-targeted meetings and discussions. UML district leader Ran Bahadur Chand said, "We are working with a focus on the upcoming election strategy."
UCPN (Maoist) District Secretary Khadak Rawat said that the party was preparing for the upcoming election. Rawat said, "We are preparing to go to the polls by forming an alliance of all the ruling parties and if the Congress does not agree to the alliance, at least by forming an alliance of leftist parties other than the UML."
In the local level election held five years ago, out of the total 13 local level chiefs of Kailali district, UML had won in seven tiers, Congress in three tiers including Dhangadhi sub-metropolis, CPN-Maoist center in two tiers and the then Democratic Forum in one tier. The Democratic Forum has merged with the Congress, while the UML is divided. It has been analyzed that the main competition will be between the Congress, UML and CPN-Maoist in the coming election.
However, due to the division in different parties during the last five years, internal factional politics and other reasons, the results of the municipal elections may be different from the previous ones. Despite the increasing election activities, it has not been decided whether there will be an electoral alliance between the ruling parties in the election.
The activities of the new party of Reshmalal Chaudhary, who was convicted in the Tikapur incident in Constituency No. 1 of Kailali, has started increasing. Compared to other parties, the election-centric activities of Janata Samajwadi Party and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party have been less in Kailali.
The constitution has made provision for the basic structure of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal to be three-tiered at the federal, state and local levels. There is a constitutional provision for the use of state power in Nepal by the federal, state and local levels. The election of Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city, the capital city of the far western province and a major business center, is being watched with more interest and curiosity.
