Embassy of Nepal in Spain organized a Cultural Program

The Embassy of Nepal in Spain organized a Cultural Program, including a horse race, at Hipódromo de la Zarzuela, Madrid.

The event was organized to mark the 55th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relationship between Nepal and Spain, to promote tourism and culture of Nepal in line with the objective of sending at least hundred thousand tourists per year from Spain to Nepal by 2026, and to create awareness regarding impact of climate change on our mountains and glaciers.

During Program me Javier Salido, Director General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, addressed the audience in which he highlighted the strengths of Nepal-Spain relationship. He expressed his desire to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries in tourism, culture, and gastronomy among others. Nepalese Ambassador for Spain Dr. Sarmila Parajuli stressed that the event was a testament to the enduring partnership that existed between two countries, characterized by shared values, cultural exchange, and collaborative efforts in various fields.

Ms. Adriana Brownlee, a famous mountaineer, also spoke at the event in which she urged for immediate action against the impacts of climate change on the mountains and the locals. This was followed with an Orchestra performance on Nepali and Spanish songs.

The event also had a showcase of eight horses named after the eight highest mountains of Nepal including Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world followed by a brief description of each mountain. After the showcase, the horse race started, and the horse named after Annapurna won the race. Then, Lord Buddha’s statue was awarded to the winner by Ambassador Dr. Parajuli including the ‘Token of Love’ awarded to each jockey for their participation.

The cultural section of the event was a celebration of the diverse ethnicities and traditions of Nepal and Spain.

The event also had a fashion show in which the models showcased different Nepali handicrafts and textiles followed. The event also featured performances of both Nepali Singer Mr. Rupak Dotel and Spanish Singer Ms. Andrea.
