In the past, Nepali workers saw Israel as a great choice for employment. Nepali workers attached great importance to Israel. As a developed country with attractive wages and easy jobs, Israel was a popular choice of people. People were especially interested in caring for the elderly when they went to work as caregivers. Similarly, Nepalese were also attracted to the agricultural sector. But for a while now, Nepalese have been deprived of work there.
Employment in Israel, which had been suspended for the past decade, has resumed for Nepalese workers. Accordingly, the second team of Nepalese going to work in Israel will leave tomorrow, Saturday evening. There are a total of 150 members in the team and 45 more are on the waiting list. Nepalese going to Israel will leave for Abu Dhabi from Kathmandu at 11:55 pm and after a few hours of transit, they will leave for Tel Aviv of Israel. They are going to Israel to work as auxiliary workers.
Meanwhile, according to the Department of Foreign Employment, the standard employment contract of 16 candidates selected for the post of Nepali assistant worker to be sent to a long-term care center in Israel has been signed by the employer. After being fully vaccinated, they were informed to contact the Vocational and Skill Development Training Institute, Bhainsepati, Lalitpur till yesterday.
Earlier on January 20, 99 Nepalese people had arrived in Israel for employment of support workers in Israeli nursing fields (especially Geriatric Centers). They were received at Ben Gurion International Airport by a team from Israel's Population and Immigration Authority (PIBA), Ministry of Health, and Nepalese Embassy of Israel.
The Department of Foreign Employment, in collaboration with the Israeli side, has prepared all the necessary procedures, including contact details, required documents, minimum qualifications, online form, and English language syllabus, of which 70% were women and 30% were men.
Until a few years ago, due to the fact that Nepalese were going to Israel for foreign employment through the private sector, the pilot project was started to send Nepali workers to Israel from the government level (G to G). Nepalese had not been able to go to Israel for a few years after the completion of the pilot project.
According to the Nepalese Embassy in Israel, Nepal and Israel signed an agreement on "Temporary Employment of Nepalese Workers in Israel's Specialized Labor Market" about a year ago after the embassy's continuous efforts. Similarly, after the signing of the Implementation Protocol on Bringing Support Workers from Nepal to the Nursing Sector of Israel, more than 1,000 Nepalese selected for the first phase have started going to Israel as per the agreement, out of which 99 were in the first team.
Others are doing Contract Signing, Corona Vaccination, Visa, Pre-departure orientation, etc. The Nepali Embassy has informed that all the selected candidates will go to Israel.
Knowledge of Israeli (Hebrew) language is not mandatory. Candidates were tested in English (both written and interview).
Nepal and Israel on 30 September 2020, signed an "Agreement on the Temporary Employment of Nepali Workers in Israel's Specific Labor Market"
On behalf of Nepal, Nepal's Then Ambassador to Israel Dr. Anjan Shakya and Israeli Foreign Minister H. E. Gabi Ashkenazi signed on behalf of Israel. With the signing of that Framework Agreement, the Israeli labor market has been opened for Nepalese citizens. Israel provides employment opportunities to Nepalese people in the caregiving sector, agriculture, hotel/restaurant, construction, and others.
The Implementation protocol of this agreement was signed on 21 January 2021.
